Our Community Outreach Programs

Through the teachers and social workers at our partner school, Children’s Corner Junior School, we have been able to make great links with the Makerere- Kivulu slum community.
Through these programs we meet families struggling to provide education, food and safety for their children.
This is where we recruit mothers for our Woman’s Empowerment Program and children for our Sponsorship Programs.

Medical Grants

Although there is a free government health care service in Uganda it is very limited with hospitals often having little or no medication and being very understaffed. Through our community workers and community outreach events we have come in contact with families needing urgent medical support. Some are relatively small scale cases such as malaria or typhoid which can be treated for under £20 and others being urgent life-saving brain surgery costing several hundred pounds.

Families we know in the community have lost children and parents because they can’t afford medical care of £10. We want to make sure that does not happen again. Please get in touch if you would like to partner with us in providing for our medical grants.

Marvin’s teenage mother abandoned him when she realised he had an abnormality and his grandmother has been caring for him since. Doctors said he had months to live before the excess fluid permanently damaged his brain function. All thanks to a pro-active grandmother seeking help and kind donations to Abundant Life Uganda we were able to provide the surgeries Marvin needed and he is now a happy healthy boy joining Primary one next term.

Home Visits

Several of the parents of the children on our sponsor program are suffering with long-term medical problems and other children are looked after by grandparents or even
great-grandparents. It is very difficult for these carers to find jobs or have the energy and health to sustain a business. We make it a priority to go and visit these carers in their homes, provide some essentials such as rice, beans and soap and pray with them. The teachers and social workers often go to visit the homes of children who have stopped coming to school and find out why, for most families the reason their children are not in school is due to lack of school fees. Some families need short-term financial support or capital for their business after a family tragedy or divorce and some need longer-term support through our sponsor system. When staff or volunteers visit a home to listen and support, it is a tangible way to show the love of Jesus and build relationships with the families from this community.

Saturday Outreach Program

Most Saturdays we run a community outreach program in Children’s Corner Junior School on the outskirts of Makerere-Kivulu slum in Kampala. This is an opportunity for any child from the community to come into a safe environment to play games, make crafts, listen to a message from the Bible, sing worship songs and take part in reading groups. We also use this program to distribute new or gently used clothes, shoes and personal hygiene items to the families who come in extreme need.

We have volunteers coming several times a year so please get in touch if you would like to donate any gently used clothes or shoes. We will be happy to update you with where your kind donations end up.
